The challenge
Extensive damp in the basement of the hospital's main building. The damp wall adjoined laboratory workplaces and stores of sensitive medical supplies. Given the round-the-clock operation, the work had to be carried out without evacuating patients and staff, without dust and without noise exceeding the normal level of corridor traffic. Traditional methods (sawing, the extensive removal of plaster) were ruled out by these constraints.

Why WetBRICK®
WetBRICK® was the only method that allowed full damp-proofing while the building stayed in normal use. The drilling of Ø 18 mm holes proceeded section by section, with the dust extracted directly at the tool. The application of the gel is silent and free of vibration. After each stage the working zone was sealed off and returned to normal use within a few hours. The Regional Public Health Authority of the Central Bohemian Region approved the procedure after it was shown that the materials used meet the standards for a healthcare environment.
Section 03
What happened next
The damp-proofing was carried out in seven stages over two months, entirely while the hospital stayed in normal use. On completion, Epasit® renovating plaster was applied to all the treated walls. The damp at the monitored points fell below 3% within the first year. The hospital's operations department went on to deploy the methodology in the adjoining basements of neighbouring buildings.
