The smell of damp — what causes it and how to remove it permanently

The smell of damp comes from micro-organisms (mould, bacteria) living on the damp surface. Ventilation disperses the smell temporarily, but if you do not stop the damp it returns. A permanent solution = drying the masonry + disinfecting the surfaces where needed.
